How to get here

By car: Phillip Island is located 90 minutes drive from Melbourne. Allow a further 20 minutes from the bridge to get to the Penguin Parade. Free car parking on site.

By bus: Public transport is limited on Phillip Island. V-line operates a bus to Phillip Island’s main town, Cowes, from Southern Cross Station in Melbourne city.

Please note that the V-line bus does not go to the Penguin Parade and there are no return buses to Melbourne at the conclusion of the Penguin Parade. 

By taxi: Contact Phillip Island Taxis on 03 5952 2200 to arrange transfers on Phillip Island.

Suggested self-drive itineraries

Located only 90 minutes from Melbourne, Phillip Island Nature Parks is a comfortable day trip to enjoy iconic Australian wildlife amongst spectacular landscapes. The Penguin Parade, Koala Conservation Centre and Churchill Island Heritage Farm and Nobbies Centre can all be explored in one day. The numerous quality accommodation providers, a variety of restaurants, relaxing beaches and parks also encourage an extended multi-day trip.

One day

  • Koala Conservation Centre (open 10am daily)
  • Lunch at Churchill Island Heritage Farm
  • Wild Oceans EcoBoat Tour
  • Explore the Nobbies cliff top boardwalks and look for seals and migrating whales
  • Visit the Antarctic Journey at the Nobbies
  • Penguin Parade ranger guided tour of your choice
  • Dinner at Penguin Parade café.


Two days


Day one

  • Visit the Antarctic Journey at the Nobbies
  • Lunch at the Nobbies Centre
  • Churchill Island Heritage Farm - stay for the daily farm activities starting at 2.00pm
  • Penguin Parade ranger guided tour of your choice
  • Dinner at Penguin Parade café.

Day two

  • Rhyll Inlet mangrove boardwalks
  • Koala Conservation Centre and tree top boardwalks
  • Wild Oceans EcoBoat Tour
  • A walk at Cape Woolamai, Swan Lake or Pyramid Rock.
