Generous grant for grass-roots education program

The protection of Phillip Island’s natural habitat and its unique flora and fauna will be the focus of the 2016 ‘Wild Island Discoveries’ free holiday activities program, thanks to a generous donation from the Wilson HTM Foundation.

Phillip Island’s Penguin Foundation received this grant from the Wilson HTM Foundation as part of its long-term sustainable giving philosophy. Mary Jung, General Manager of the Wilson HTM Foundation said, “In line with the interests of our Victorian staff, we are keen to support projects which engage and educate the community to help protect native species within the state”.

“Specifically we are very eager to help create new holiday activities and displays aimed at educating the public around the protection of natural habitat, and the unique flora and fauna of Phillip Island,” continued Ms Jung. “We feel that the Penguin Foundation, through its association with Phillip Island Nature Parks, is ideally placed to deliver these outcomes as part of its ongoing endeavours to support wildlife and environment conservation programs on the island.”

“We are thrilled to receive this generous grant, and we look forward to presenting these important conservation messages through our hands-on, fun activities including Rockpool Rambles, Bush Creatures and Creations, and Koala Prowls, just to name a few, ” said Lauren Jones, Penguin Foundation Officer.

“The programme aims to provide guided interpretation and appreciation of Phillip Island’s natural environment, along with opportunities to learn about our native flora and fauna, and make connections to the land for the benefit of life-long learning,” continued Ms Jones.

The Wild Island Discoveries holiday program will operate throughout the peak summer holiday period in January, providing free holiday activities and learning opportunities to the thousands of visitors on Phillip Island.

Bookings are essential for many activities so please call 03 5951 2826 and speak to one of the Phillip Island Nature Parks Education Rangers.
