Bass Coast beaches closed for Easter
Phillip Island Nature Parks and Bass Coast Shire Council have announced the closure of all Bass Coast beaches to the public over the Easter break.
The closure will take effect from 11.59pm Thursday 9 April until 11.59pm Monday 13 April and will apply to all beaches within the Bass Coast Shire, including Phillip Island.
During these times, there will be no access to any beaches in the shire, so activities such as walking, running, swimming and surfing which had previously been allowed will now be prohibited.
“The message is clear, stay home, protect our health system and save lives,” said Catherine Basterfield, Phillip Island Nature Parks CEO.
“People should only be leaving their homes to shop for food and other necessary goods and services, to access medical services or provide caregiving, for exercise, or to attend work or education, where they can’t do those things remotely.”
Signs will be placed at all beach entrance points, beach car parks will be closed where possible, and Rangers will be patrolling beaches.
People are encouraged to contact the Victoria Police Assistance Line 131 444 to alert authorities of potential breaches of directions, including gatherings.
