Back due to popular demand, the community is invited to gather their teams to join the second annual Surfing Teams Challenge to be held on Saturday 11 April.
The tag team format will be the same as last year ensuring a fun-filled day where surfers of all ages, styles and abilities will be able to compete.
“Once again this event is a way to bring the community together to celebrate the reserve and to enjoy surfing the quality waves on offer,” said Geoff Owens, member of the Phillip Island National Surfing Reserve community working group since its establishment.
And there are also some important changes. “This year, each team requires nine instead of eight members as we have added a new category for a Twin Fin surfer and the board must be pre-1985.”
Another special difference is that surfers will be competing for the Dave Fincher memorial trophy as well as the great prizes and giveaways. With a first prize of $2000 and other cash prizes and giveaways, it is set to be a great event for participants and spectators.
The 2015 competition categories are: super grommet (under14), junior (21 and under), open man, open woman, kneeboarder, single fin rider, Malibu rider, over 50 short board rider and Twin Fin (pre 1985) surfer.
There are also bonus points for family members within a team and an equalisation rule applies.
