Island Explorer Bus – new summer attraction officially launched!
See what's in your own back yard this summer and jump on board the new pilot project sponsored by Phillip Island Nature Parks, Destination Phillip Island Regional Tourism Board, Phillip Island RSL and Bass Coast Shire Council. The Island Explorer is a 55 seat tour bus which will operate free of charge from 28th December 2015 through until 13th March 2016. The project is further supported by a number of local businesses.
In a bid to reduce the number of cars on the Island's roads and help alleviate over crowded beach car parks over summer, the Island Explorer is a pilot project which, if successful, could become a more permanent attraction during the holiday season and year round.
There are two park and ride locations where you can leave your car and board the bus for free – the vacant block next door to the Phillip Island RSL, and at the San Remo Interchange. The service operates 7 days a week from 10am through to 6.30pm. An additional service taking passengers to the Penguin Parade operates Monday to Sunday from 7.35pm (Jan) departing San Remo - this must be booked in advance via www.islandexplorer.eventbrite.com.au - to ensure a seat especially during peak season and weekends. The day service will run subject to capacity so we encourage users to consider in addition the local bus timetable.
Timetables will be available from Visitor Information Centres at Cowes and Newhaven, Phillip Island RSL, Koala Conservation Centre, Churchill Island, Penguin Parade, The Nobbies and the supporting sponsors; Wildlife Coast Cruises, Rhyll Trout & Bush Tucker Farm, Phillip Island Chocolate Factory, Silverwater Resort, The Big Wave, Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, and A Maze’N Things.

Here’s how it could work for you:
Park your car at the Phillip Island RSL and jump on board the Island Explorer at 10.04am, enjoy the trip out to the Nobbies and visit the new Antarctica Exhibition. Have some lunch and catch the 12.21pm bus and visit the Koala Conservation Centre and play mini golf at A Maze'N Things. At 3.15pm, pick up the Island Explorer at A Maze'N Things and head back to the Phillip Island RSL for a refreshing beverage and dinner by 5.15pm.
You will still need to book and pay for your tickets to the attractions – the bus is a free service and available on a first in best dressed basis during the day with bookings required only for the evening service to the Penguin Parade.
It is a co-operative pilot project led by the local tourism industry and Council to research opportunities to move visitors with and without cars across the vast number of experiences the region offers so your feedback is invited so please send an email through to firstname.lastname@example.org
