Protection of Summerland Peninsula wildlife enhanced
Phillip Island Nature Parks is committed to the ongoing protection of the precious wildlife on Summerland Peninsula, including the penguins, as well as the wallabies, echidna, swamp hens, and other assorted birdlife.
The Nature Parks has identified that the effectiveness of the existing Ventnor Road gate, and the subsequent wildlife protection it offers outside of daylight hours would be significantly enhanced by its relocation.
As a result, the Ventnor Road gate will be relocated during the week commencing Monday, 30 May. The new location will be on Ventnor Road, approximately 20 metres west of the entrance to the Swan Lake car park.
This location offers greater protection to the wildlife of the peninsula, and takes advantage of a natural narrowing of the roadway and its verges, prior to arrival at the Penguin Parade and the Works Yard/Environment/Education pod precinct.
Opening times for this gate will remain unchanged from current procedures, so there should be no adverse impact to members of the surfing or fishing fraternity who regularly access this area in the early hours of the morning, and will be able to continue to do so.
