Phillip Island Nature Parks wins Victorian export award
Phillip Island Nature Parks was awarded the Governor of Victoria Export Awards: ‘Small to Medium Business Award’ at Government House on Tuesday night.
“This is one of the most prestigious business awards in Victoria, rewarding Victoria’s most successful and innovative exporters,” said the Nature Parks CEO, Matthew Jackson, who accepted the award.
“This is the first time that the Nature Parks has entered these awards and we are extremely proud of our achievement.”
The application detailed the significant achievements in the Nature Parks’ ongoing efforts with international markets and its success in showcasing unique wildlife and ecotourism products to the world.
The award recognises the importance of the Nature Parks’ tourism operations to Victoria and Bass Coast Shire. The Nature Parks attracts over 1 million visitors per year.
The Nature Parks completed economic modeling of its operations for the 2010-11 financial year with a result of $125 million of economic contribution to the State of Victoria and boosting $64 million directly into Bass Coast Shire.
“In the 2011-2012 financial year, the Nature Parks achieved record ticketed visitation of 790,454 visitors (excluding the Nobbies Centre where admission is free). A total of 54 per cent of all visitors to the Nature Parks were international,” said Mr Jackson.
“This is the result of the exceptional work of our marketing team in continuing to deliver outstanding visitation results for the Nature Parks - specifically within the key international markets of China, Malaysia and Singapore.”
The Nature Parks has now qualified to enter the National Export Awards to be held in Canberra in late November.
